Jerome Avenue Line M Track Signal System Enhancements The Jerome Avenue 4 train connects the Bronx with Manhattan. To increase flexibility on the already crowded Lexington Avenue Line, the New York City Transit Authority was determined to make better use of the middle track that runs from 149th Street and Grand Concourse to the northern end of the line at Woodlawn Terminal. To accomplish this task, new signals were designed and integrated into the existing operating signal system. Forty-three additional signals were installed on the middle track, and their designs and circuitry were incorporated into 10 existing relay rooms. The system was placed in service incrementally, starting at the southern-most station, and moved along until Woodlawn Terminal went into service in February 2008. TC Electric completed this $ 26 million project in April 2008, eight months ahead of schedule.
